Scotland’s climate coalition has criticised the Scottish Government for shelving plans to introduce its Heat in Buildings Bill in the current parliamentary session.
Stop Climate Chaos Scotland coalition manager Becky Kenton-Lake said:
“Scrapping the Heat in Buildings Bill in this parliament, which was urgently needed to help Scots to have warmer, drier homes while cutting energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions, is a disaster for householders, businesses and the climate alike.
“When the draft bill was introduced two years ago, the government’s official advisors hailed it as a great example of Scotland leading the way on green measures that would deliver warmer and more affordable homes and boost the economy.
“Now, blaming the UK government’s dithering on action to decarbonise homes and buildings, they have left it too late to get a bill through before the election, leaving many people in Scotland shivering in cold homes, missing out on new job opportunities and failing to get us on track to meeting climate targets
“Scottish ministers must now strengthen the draft of the new Climate Change Plan and commit to supporting householders to switch to more efficient, low-carbon heating and provide certainty for businesses and workers in the sector.”
